Summer Jobs

What is a Summer Job Program?

As summer time approaches, we are pleased to offer students the possibility of applying for a Summer Job covering the school vacation period. Applicants for summer jobs are hired to fulfil unqualified tasks for a limited period of time. Their main purpose is to work during the summer holidays in order to get exposed to a business environment.

The duration of the assignment is a minimum of 10 consecutive working days (generally between 2 to 4 weeks) but no more than 4 weeks.

The implication for Philip Morris is to identify the tasks to be fulfilled and give some guidance on the job in order to ensure that the selected students can perform properly and acquire professional experiences.

Students are available from June 2nd to September 26th 2025.

The cost will be charged to the Department cost center.

Example of activities and profiles:

Simple administrative tasks, filing, mail distribution, basic laboratory tasks, basic tasks for the production facility and such. Please note that Engagement Manager will have to provide Manpower with a job description of the Summer Job they are offering.
Bear in mind that the overtime is not accepted. Students should work 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, no more.

The assignment won’t be considered a summer job if:

  • it starts before June 2nd or after September 26th 2025 and/or
  • the job description contains more than simply unqualified tasks, in this case this will be considered a regular temporary assignment

More precisely, who can apply?

As for previous years, please be aware that we will only consider candidates who fulfil the requirements below:

  • be at least 18 years old when the summer job starts
  • be Swiss or EU-27/EFTA citizen or have a valid work permit L, B or C
  • be available and willing to work for a minimum of 10 consecutive working days and a maximum of 4 weeks.

Summer job positions will be opened to students who are children / immediate family members of PMI employees as priority.
External applicants can apply knowing that they have very limited chances to be selected.

What are the priority levels?

1) Employee’s child / immediate family members currently working in Switzerland who has never had a summer job at PMI before
2) Employee’s child / immediate family members currently working in Switzerland who already had a summer job
3) External candidates will only be considered if we don’t have a match within the first two categories, which is very unlikely.

Please note that this selection process will be strictly applied according to Philip Morris guidelines. In case of specific request linked to your business needs, the approval from Damien Hiroux (Director Global Employee rel. and P&C Switzerland) will be requested

How does the selection process work?

Manpower and the Engagement Manager will select the best candidate taking into consideration the closest fit to the required profiles and availability of students. Moreover, please note that:

  • a son/daughter will not work under the same organization as a member of his/her family, in order to prevent any conflict of interest
  • each summer job will be attributed to a different student in order to allow as many applicants as possible to have a summer job experience (we will not accept 2 summer job assignments for the same student).

If you are an Engagement Manager and you are looking for a summer student:
Once you have evaluated your need for a “summer job”, please fill in this Summer Jobs Request Form by May 30th, 2025 at the latest.

We will create a request in Fieldglass in order for your cost center owner to approve the request and for the candidate to be officially registered and able to enter his/her worked hours in the dedicated platform.
